Physical properties of benzene

• Benzene is a colorless liquid (melting point 5.5°C, boiling point 80.4°C) with a characteristic smell of petrol.

• It is immiscible with water, but dissolves in organic solvents.

• It is lighter than water: density 0.87 g cm^-3

• Its vapors are toxic.
